Because the text lives in the pattern itself, a text QR works with zero connectivity — in a warehouse basement or on a mountainside. That makes it the standard choice for asset tagging, inventory labels and machine-readable serials.
Capacity is finite: a QR code can hold up to roughly 3 KB, but practical scanning comfort drops past a few hundred characters as the pattern gets dense. Keep it short, or raise the error-correction level and print larger if you must encode more.
